New functions of the multimess F96 measuring device series

Electronic loads have decisive advantages: Lower current consumption and better controllability. However, due to their distorted current consumption, there is usually a feedback effect on the mains voltage. Unfortunately, these so-called harmonics cause faults in machines, systems and computer networks. It is therefore important for operational technology to know how your power quality, and therefore your operational safety, is doing.

Today we are introducing two new functions in the multimess F96 measuring device series: the oscilloscope and the pointer diagram. Both functions are available in all device variants, even in the cheapest entry-level device for less than 150 €.

An oscilloscope has been integrated in the voltage to earth measuring range. The display can be customized using the four device function keys. Settings for voltage, current and time per division can be set individually, as can the selection of measurement parameters. In addition, the operator of the measuring device can choose between the three-phase oscillations of voltage and current, individually or simultaneously, as well as the single-phase display for each phase in relation to each other.

The oscilloscope view makes the distortions in the voltage or current curve caused by grid perturbations visible. A useful function for evaluating the power quality. These feedback effects of current harmonics on the voltage can cause faults in machines and consumers. Voltage distortions should be detected at an early stage in order to counteract possible damage to systems and the production process.

To increase operational safety, the quality of the power supply should always be kept in mind by the person responsible. The mains voltage is automatically monitored in accordance with EN 61000-4-30. If the standard is breached, the voltage and current curve is stored in the memory. The fault can be conveniently analyzed via the colour TFT display.

Together with the bar charts for the harmonic voltages and currents and the maximum values of the individual voltage and current harmonics, initial assessments of the power quality can be made. In addition to the total harmonic distortion factor, the individual harmonics up to the 63rd harmonic (3150 Hz) are also measured.

The second new function is the pointer diagram. Here too, the settings can be adjusted using the function keys. In the pointer diagram, phase shifts between voltage and current as well as dangerous unbalances can be recognized at a glance.

In addition to the standard measured values of a digital measuring device, the multimess F96 series has some additional functions on board that you would not expect from measuring devices in this price range. This means that even a small investment can increase your operational safety immensely.
